About the BIM Application for Engineers Course
In order to effectively reach the goal of learning, students will get familiar with the model-building process. The second module of the course will be on how to use Autodesk Revit to build BIM models. We will use an example case and guide students to build a 6-story BIM model from the CAD drawings step by step. Then, in the following three modules, we will introduce three essential BIM applications one by one in each module, namely clash detection, quantity takeoff, and 4D simulation. We will use Autodesk Revit and Navisworks to build our BIM models in this course. Register for the BIM Application for Engineers course here.

Introduction. BIM-Building Information Modeling has been found to save a lot of investment and allow builders and contractors to exercise better command on the construction processes. With 6D-six dimension BIM the time, and the other relevant factors such as material specifications and their quantities are also included in the model itself. How can all this be made further beneficial? How can the investment made in making such a detailed model can be used to reduce the running costs and ensure that the investment is having maximum returns? The answer is to use the model itself as a background and reference in all activities of the building during the life of the structure. One of the biggest investment most companies make during the life of the structure is in Structural Auditing & Retrofitting to avoid and damage to the structure and ensure longevity, these days’ companies & industrial chambers hire structural consultants to perform a yearly or every 6 months or so, details on what a structural safety audit are mentioned in the next section. Generally, the reports of the audits are made in a text document format and 2D-two dimension plans which are difficult for a non-technical person to understand & interpret.

BIM-Building Information Modeling, BEM-Built Environment Management, BDM-Building Data Management, there can be many acronyms for this concept. The sole theory behind it is to assemble the building infrastructure and construction information in a way that can be reused in several other customized ways to get the desired outputs or perform certain operations. Once you are done with building up the information and forming a database then it is all up to the capability of particular BIM software to perform certain intelligent tasks and get the useful outputs as per the requirements of the user. As Data in its nature is always dead, one cannot criticize the data or a particular file format for being so unintelligent. The point is how intelligently we play with that data.

Introduction. BIM-Building Information Modeling also known as VDC-Virtual Design and Construction became a new buzz word in the real estate and construction industry. It’s already evident from the industry experts that utilizing the BIM technology and its workflows in a right way can prove BIM as revolutionary in the AECO-Architecture, Engineering, Construction and Operation Industry. BIM cannot be considered mere as a technological advancement, but a philosophy that can re-engineer the way conventional AECO industry functions. In this article we can explore about BIM implementation in EPC-Engineering, Procurement and Construction project, what kind of risks should a BIM manager be aware of in this new paradigm.
Now among different project delivery methods in real estate or infrastructure, EPC mode of delivery has become, one of popular way of project delivery methods not only in India but also in global scale. Based on the FIDIC-International Federation of Consulting Engineers definition EPC project is a “particular form of contracting arrangement used in some industries where the EPC Contractor is made responsible for all the activities from design, procurement, construction, to commissioning and handover of the project to the End-User or Owner.”

Gone are the days when Information Technology (IT) was only linked to the computers. The last two decades have shown a remarkable development of IT in our day to day lives. The aggressive use of the computers in the AEC industry has brought it to the new heights. The conventional practices have got an all new evolution since this period. Things have got more efficient and quicker than before. However, remember that we can always do better than the ones we have already done. The next big thing is the Automation which is fascinating to the people from different walks of life. This is something which has no end and always gets better with time. Self-driven cars are a beautiful example of automation with the use of Artificial Intelligence.

Ingenuity in management tactics nowadays is getting popular among the researchers in Project management field. Researchers are coming up with lots of updates regarding Management system with major and minor illustrates. Since last decade, the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industries have observed the growth of the Lean Construction Management Systems and the rise of the Building Information Modeling (BIM). Not only individually but also in combination, they are acting as they have lots of synergy in their implementation pattern. There are numbers of case studies that show the benefits in Management functionality due to these systems. But how is that affecting the performance of Project or an organization? that is going to be the area of focus for the discussion.

Introduction. India is a rapidly developing country and its infrastructure development is at an extremely large scale. In the human body, it is the DNA that controls the growth and development. But, when it comes to a city it’s the municipal authorities i.e. local government that are responsible for getting the task done. In other words, Municipal authority refers to political administration of the smallest subdivisions of a country’s territory and population.
For any construction project to be done in India, it is required to have a project sanctioning done by these municipal authorities. In order to sanction the plan, the architect prepares the layout and related data. It is later submitted for scrutiny to these municipal authorities, which either pass or reject the project proposal. With India being at its rapid pace of development, it is often found that illegal construction projects come into existence, which violate the FSI and other buildings bye-laws. On the other hand, exploitation of builders and architects at the hands of corrupt officers.
Solution to this problem is the integration of technology in governance and private construction. Implementing latest IT techniques such as Building Information Modeling (BIM) as a mediator and a making use of this BIM platform for sanctioning, scrutiny, execution and verification can be the solution, which is well proven in the Global market. BIM can be integrated with cloud platform and a service could be developed to receive and retain clearances from government officials, here by using Digital Signatures. In this way every required document is maintained on one platform which is secure and accessible to all authorized users.

The Information Technology (IT) has been able to expand its roots to vast fields since last decade. Every profession seems to be greatly influenced by it and the Architecture Engineering Construction and Operation (AECO) industry is not left behind either. The advent of Building Information Modelling (BIM) has been a boom for this sector. Gone are the days of manual drafting and 2D CAD drawings. The philosophy of BIM has inspired many leading software vendors like Autodesk, Bentley, Trimble, Graphisoft, Nemetschek, etc to develop the modelling software based on the principles of BIM. The AECO industry professionals are very well aware of these commercial products and have adapted them in their day to day services. Majority of prevailing companies delivering CAD services have transformed themselves into BIM organizations and many new companies have also emerged in the industry with BIM tags.
